Living the Dream
Got a four oh one built of dirt and sticks
On a patch of land off of sixty-six
Where the river ends
And the sun don’t ever shine
I been beat too long to change my ways
Never got the call, never made the grade
So I learned
To live off of the land
And I guess they call this America
But I ain’t living no dream
I’m just fallin’ free
In the land of liberty
When the government came to claim this land
There was no one left to make a stand
They was rousted
Twenty years gone by
It’s the hardest lesson the heart can learn
To watch all you’ve worked to build just burn
And crumble
As dust falls into dust
I guess they call this America
But I ain’t living no dream
I’m just fallin’ free
In the land of liberty
Don’t look down
Don’t you ever look back
Got a one way ticket
On a dead end track
Got a part time job
Making minimum wage
And I’m free
Free to live the dream
This highway and this land are mine
But I just see dividing lines
And faces
That have seen too much
Got one last chance to find my place
I’m getting out of this goddamn race
And going
Where the river never ends
I guess they call this America
But I ain’t living no dream
I’m just fallin’ free
In the land of liberty
